Nine seems to be a good number for Farina South Central as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The Breese Central Cougars fell just short of the Columbia Eagles by a score of 4-2. Breese Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Columbia apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April.

Breese Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Budde, who went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Breese Central and nudges their season record down to 11-10. As for Columbia, their win bumped their record up to 18-10.

Breese Central is on the road again on Wednesday to play Wesclin at 5:30 p.m. As for Columbia, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against East Alton-Wood River at 4:30 p.m. Columbia is facing East Alton-Wood River at the right time seeing as East Alton-Wood River is stuck on a four-game losing streak.

Centralia Heads Out

The Centralia Orphans will head out on the road to face off against the Murphysboro Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Centralia finally turned things around against Charleston on Tuesday. Centralia skirted past Charleston 10-9. Considering Centralia's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

The team relied heavily on Kaylee Bowdler, who went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Francois, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Murphysboro had just enough and edged DuQuoin out 13-11 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for Murphysboro.

Murphysboro let Marteena Clover and Sarah Cook loose on the outfield. Clover went 3-for-5 with five RBI, a triple, and a run, while Cook scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Macey Alexander was another key contributor, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

The win got Centralia back to even at 10-10. As for Murphysboro, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Centralia suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Murphysboro when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Carlyle Heads Out

The Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the DuQuoin Indians at 4:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Carlyle is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Red Bud last Tuesday. They fell just short of the Musketeers by a score of 1-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Carlyle has not been shut out since back in March.

Meanwhile, DuQuoin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 9-3 to Carbondale.

Wesclin Hits the Road

The Wesclin Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Roxana Shells at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roxana took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Wesclin, who comes in off a win.

Wesclin can now show off 14 landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They put the hurt on Breese Central with a sharp 14-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Wesclin considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Lexie Oster was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Hooks, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Roxana had to settle for a 5-4 loss against Salem on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that Roxana has lost by just one run.

Kennedi Robien was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs.

Wesclin's victory bumped their record up to 19-8. As for Roxana, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both team's pitchers. Wesclin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Roxana struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

The Salem Wildcats will play host again on Tuesday to welcome the Richland County Tigers, where first pitch is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Salem has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Thursday, Salem narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Roxana 5-4.

Breanna Thurman was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Thurman has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Thurman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a run.

Thurman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Blagoue, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Richland County came into Monday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victor by an 11-5 margin over Paris on Monday.

Like Salem, Richland County also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Bloomer. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Bloomer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Bailey Rennier and Miranda Dowty did most of the damage at the plate: Rennier scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Dowty scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Isabella Trupiano, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

Salem has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Richland County, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Salem hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Richland County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Vandalia Heads Out

Vandalia and Litchfield are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Vandalia Vandals are on the road again on Thursday to play the Litchfield Purple Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Vandalia lost 10-2 to Hillsboro on Monday.

Meanwhile, Litchfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greenville.

Litchfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lili Anne Readenour, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Bono, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Vandalia's defeat was their 11th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Litchfield, their record is now 6-12.
